Blade Symphony stuck at main menu

Every time I try to leave the main menu by any means the application closes and I'm plopped back out to my desktop. It appears that no crash reports are created, though I'm looking in the main folder under steamapps.
I had to set my AV to exclude the entire folder. I tried to troubleshoot with the general compatibility mode stuff, but messing with that causes the game to fail to start (I have W10 for the record). Administrator mode has negligible effect. My drivers are all up to date. I've tried lowering all the graphic settings to their lowest as well.
Anything I missed?
