===================================================
hello,
since i'm not too happy with any of the current Dystopia guides, i've descided to do one myself, in the hope that perhaps many others would be interested in contributing and who knows.. maybe it can be included in v1.2 or some place on the website

the idea is to have a simple guide that adresses most common misunderstandings or hidden features in Dystopia, without giving too much information that would bore the reader
the general style should be: really short tips, many images, cool/funny general style/fonts, perhaps a small comic here & there, fun to read but in a short time
the result would either be a HTML or PDF, depending on how creative we want to be

so anyway, i came up with the dystopian alphabet, which should help a new player understand the game in 26 letters
below is a draft for what i have now. in the end i hope to have filled in all letters
i'm not a native english speaker, so please if you think you can improve the text in any way, do so! especially if you know a way to say the same but in shorter text
oh & please don't move the thread, nobody reads the guide section :oops:

===============================================================
Dystopian alphabet
letters that are most important should have a special color

Assault rifle: Picking a medium loadout with assault rifle, cyberdeck, thermal vision, medimplant and wired reflexes is a good way to start your Dystopian adventures. Press 'm' to bring up te loadout menu. To toggle implants on and off, use the appropiate F keys (F1, F2, F3 or F4).

<image>

By standing next to one of these <img>, you can get extra ammo!

Cortex bomb: When on low health, this implant will prime an explosive charge that can potentially kill anything around you (including yourself). Since it can not be deactivated, you'll need to suicide using a kill-bind when your cortex bomb go's of near teammates. You can bind a key to 'kill' in the keyboard options.

Decking: To enter cyberspace one must have a cyberdeck implant (normal or advanced). First find an access point, also called “JIP” (Jack In Point). Stand in front of the JIP and toggle the cyberimplant (F1 key) to enter cyberspace. Press the same key to exit cyberspace at any time.

Energy: Most implants consume energy when activated, watch your energy level so you don't run out at inapropriate times. This is most important when cyberdecking, as you will be kicked out of cyberspace when your energy is depleted.

Friendly fire is nearly always on in Dystopia. Check your line of sight and don't fire blindly down corridors, your teammates will like you for it.

Grenade launcher: The grenade launcher is very powerfull once you've understould the firing mechanism. Press mouse1 to launch grenades, and mouse2 to detonate them. Most players will hold mouse2 while shooting grenades to make them explode as soon as possible.

Hovering: To hover and bounce in cyberspace, hold the jump key (spacebar). This will make you accelerate, especially handy when moving through cyberspace tunnels.

Invisibility: Light class players can become invisible by using the stealth implant. Activating thermal vision will reveal stealthers, but will stop you from seeing players using the coldsuit implant. Therefore, most players will use thermal in short “bursts”.

JIP: Access points to cyberspace are often called JIP's. Often you will hear your teammates screaming “JIP!”. This usually means an enemy decker is capturing an objective from your JIP and should be stopped at all costs.

Katana: Melee weapons such as the katana and heavy phist are very powerfull in Dystopia. Learn to switch between your primary weapon at long range and melee weapon at close range.
Note that the katana also has side attacks, used by holding the left or right movement key and pressing mouse1.

Laser rifle: The laser rifle, used by light classes, is one of the most powerfull weapons in the game. Hold mouse1 to charge the laser and fire by releasing. When the laserbeam is at its thickest, the most damage will be done. To defeat a sniper try to get close to him, as less damage is dealt from close up.

Movement: Dystopia contains some advanced movement features such as bunnyhopping and wallstrafing that will make you run faster. To wallstrafe you must “hugg” the wall by pressing the left or right movement key and press forward at the same time.
This technique can also be used to climb ladders much faster.

No, there isn't any way to regain your armor in Dystopia. This is for balancing purposes.

Objectives: Your next objective can always be located by running towards the floating blue or red circle on your HUD. Hover your mouse over the icon to see a description of the objective.
Subobjectives are marked with floating exclamation marks.

Programs: To run a program in cyberspace, approach the wall or screen on wich you want to run the program and activate it using the appropriate number key.
When using the advanced cyberdeck implant, a program that is running can be speed up by pressing the minigame buttons in the correct order.
<add>

Queue: Each player that dies will be added to a respawn queue. Once the timer on this queue reaches 0 you will be able to spawn. Notice how this timer is increased for every player that dies. Heavy class players add more time to the queue than mediums or lights. A key to victory in Dystopia is avoiding many players to die at the same time, causing the respawn timer to reach 25 seconds or more. Check how many of your teammates are waiting to respawn by opening the scores menu (TAB key) and fall back at appropriate times.

Rank: In Dystopia, each player has a global rank that is displayed ingame on the scoreboard. Detailed statistics (kills, deaths, favorite weapons, ..) can be viewed online using http://www.dystopia-stats.com . You can can improve your rank by gaining more points from frags, objectives, healing players or tacscanning.
Some players also have one or more special icons next to their name on the scoreboard. <example>

Shaft: There are 3 weapons for cyberspace combat: hitscan (sniping), projectile (close combat) and the shaft. To toggle between hitscan and the shaft, use your mousewheel or press 'r'.

Tacscans: The TACscan implant is very powerfull. When toggled, it will show all enemy player locations within a fixed radius. Your teammates will also greatly benefit from this.

Unlike many (counterstike?) players might think, crouching does not help increase the accuracy of any weapon in Dystopia, except for the heavy minigun.

Vehicles are also available on some maps. Brutes are steered with the mouse, while the forward key is used for accelerating.

WASD are the keys used to control the secondary fire mode of the rocket laucher.

Yes! Dystopia is also played competitively, check the clan scene section on the official forums to see what leagues are active and which clans are recruiting!

W is for waste of time, such as using the rocket launcher's alternate fire, or trying to play phistball on a full server.

:P

Come to think of it: W is for WASD, the keys you use to control fly-by-wire rockets (not the mouse!).

Or something like that... :?

Couple of mistakes: The cortex can be deactivated, contrary to what you said. Either get EMPed (delayed in this case), or get your health raised to above 25.

You want to try to be far away with the LR, not close.

Maybe you should mention that shaft is very hard to use efficiently/well, and this shouldn't be attempted ever/until you are very good with the other stuff.

Vehicles: Mention that at this point they are only on custom maps?

W: Hug only has 1 G I believe.

X: XXX, you may see some porn in Dys, particularly the furry variety. Or the roman numeral for 10, which can stand for something (?).

Z is for zoom, the alternate fire on laser rifle, mk, and the ion. Really important for laser rifle as damage is low at close range, but not as important for ion as damage decreases the further away an enemy is, making it less useful at long range.
