Neotokyo Pending Release

Postby 0verflow » Sun Jun 14, 2009 11:38 am

So they released the Guide (Noob Hints) for the game and it sure does look a lot like Dystopia, just capture the flag style and no cyberspace.

This seems vaguely interesting. I mean it's still cyberpunk, with more "realistic" weapons than dystopia. Cyberpunk=good.

Just hope I'll like the gameplay :)

Cyberpunk is awesome. Mod is a great thing.

Nevertheless, I hope there is other gameplay than this =~CTF... Map look great and interesting.

At fucking last.

I can't stand CTF, but this should be worth it for the aesthetics alone.

Looks interesting enough.
It's cool of them to reveal some fail at this point, so people dont get dissapointed: unlockables.

it looks pretty good obviously they have spent a good amount of time on it and most of their team does work in the games industry professionally which definitely comes across in the art. gameplay will be interesting to see how it plays out with taking a different approach to dys in terms of game speed/pacing. hopefully we will get to play this in the next few weeks.

a) CoD4-style XP-based unlockables are fun, because the unlocked guns should technically be as powerful as the basic ones, just good in different situations.

b) nothing says that this isn't just within a single match (so your rank gets reset every mapchange, W:ET style).

yeah it sounds like the ranks/weapons are for a single game, like buying guns in cs

not unlocking them over time (or at least not a period of time longer than a round)

A couple of things strike me as funny or odd.
The first thing I noticed is how they declared that Source Problem
http://www.neotokyohq.com/media/noob_hints/hint11.jpg
a feature.

The second thing, that "ghost" model... oh dear. Let's give it a feminine shape and model the handling in a way that players get to grope a virtual plastic breast. What? *Facepalm* The mod itself could be interesting, it all depends on the weapon and movement handling.

It does not look like dystopia. The dystopia universe is American and dirty, while the neotokyo universe is Japanese and clean.

The creators of the mod are definitely skilled. The models, maps, and music are fantastic. However, the gameplay looks to slow for me, it almost reminds me of cs.

Im interested in the mod and i will play it at launch, however if theres any sort of "realistic damage" or "realistic movements" I will not continue to play.

Have you seen Ghost in the Shell?

It won't have bunnyhopping, and this is designed to be sort of like CS (round-based respawns).

Yeah I also just read that its a "tactical fps" :/ Movements and control damnit ! Its a shitload more interesting than just having good aim !

Im pretty sure it wont be anything for me. But i hope that many cs players will fall in love with this mod.

Have you seen Ghost in the Shell?
Ghost in the Shell (normal and reworked version)
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society

And read some of the Mangas too.
I don't know, does that qualify as having seen Ghost in the Shell?

Still, I think the way it was realized in NeoTokyo is an involuntarily bad pun.

Yeah, it sounds like CS meets Dystopia, but with CTF and "realistic" reloading... Not my cup of tea, but I might try it anyway.

Shame... It looked interesting. But, if I jump in game for the first time, get killed in the first moments, and then wait 90% of my time, it'll probably get real old, real fast.

Maybe I am mistaken, but aren't those stealthers hella easier to see than Dystopia's stealthers? So what's the point of stealth then?

Well, it's a very obvious nod to Project 2501.

so basically that camo works the same as stealth in dys but im guessing it has no flicker and is slightly easier to see.
