cool, thanks for the response. the issue isn't so much that they think you're going to make money off Dystopia, it's that you are claiming copyright on their work. i'll let them know to get in touch with you.
I've been busy the last couple of days working on heading to Devapalooza for a week.

The short answer: Of all the past developers I have talked to or tried to talk to, they are fine with Dystopia using their content. Puny Human owns the Dystopia IP and the content, and I haven't been made aware of any instances in which a developer was unhappy about the usage of their content. I'm definitely open with any developer approaching me for a discussion regarding it, however.

The basis of it is, is that we're not using Dystopia for any monetary gain, so past developers shouldn't expect any sort of compensation. However, I have spent the last two years exhaustively adding to our developer archive of past contributors to Dystopia and the level of their contribution, with a detailed credits page planned for Dystopia and future projects so that we can give credit where it is due.

Like I said, if any of these developers have any quarrels, please let me know, I'd love to get in touch with them. A lot of this has to hold off until we have the funds available to go through the legal steps of ensuring all past contributors feel that their work has been properly recognized.

The page we're working on would be more about giving credit where it's due, by citing the authors of the work. But at one point, someone would have to say that they own the intellectual property and the content within, and that would mean hundreds of contributors all copyrighting their work, which is a large initiative that they most likely would not do.

it's not about whether or not those people can be bothered to contact you and 'claim' ownership of their work, it's about the legality of you claiming copyright on their work up front. if you are taking the launch of this studio seriously you might want to do some research on the legal ramifications of the liberties you are currently taking with other people's work.

imo, continue with PMs, personally, if the artists where this bothered they wouldnt have contributed anything in the first place, and dys assets wont, and probably cant be used for a commercial purppose.

dystopia was copyrighted by the dystopia team, which are now the punyhuman team? if someone contributes and/or leaves the team, what difference does that make?

(i have no idea btw, its just a question, any lawyers in the house?)

I've already checked it out (puny human has three attorneys) I know what I need to do in order to protect Puny Human and past contributors. Circumstances have changed just a little bit is all, it won't be that much more effort.

Id also love to find out who you're referring to as original artist, I've been here since before day 0 and everyone we've bought onto the team has been down with how we have done things.

Wow, I check in from time to time but I must say I'm rather impressed. I can't believe how nice everything seems to be going for you guys. I haven't had the chance to poke around the forums and see everything that's been going on over the last few years but rest assured, I will.

Haha, to think I got to play dystopia and interact with this community when it was still young.

I hope this venture goes far for everyone on the team.

Until later, jack in and kick arse.

At first I was like, "The goggles! They do nothing!", but then I realized I wasn't Ramier Wolfcastle and this wasn't a river of flowing acid.

I kid, I kid. It's always interesting to come back months upon months later to see how things have changed. I'm glad to see everything's still hanging in there. I'm sorely disappointed by the lack of Dys merchandise. I would like a punk or corp polo shirt or hoodie now plz. I realize I've been asking for this for the past 200 eons or so, but it'll happen one day, right?

I actually may start playing Dys again. I am literally bored with every other game I have at the moment.
Holy fucking shit that is crazy
You're fucked. Later
