Objective assist areas

Postby DigitalGirlfriend » Wed Oct 06, 2010 6:33 pm

This is just for the score whores but:

Right now, you'll get "obj assist" score for being close to the player capturing the obj.

Of course that doesn't really mean that you're actually helping your team in capturing the objectives, since the proper place to assist your team on objectives are usually far away from the objective itself. Say for example on silo, for the first and second obj you'll actually want to either be camping corp spawn and not near the terminal since anyone you can see when close to the terminal for the assist score are able to shoot or throw a nade at the decker.

Same goes for when you enable the terminal or sec override on undermine.

I'd suggest that you place out certain "zones" that gives assist score to players inside while obj is captured, or give score to people who were engaged: took/dealt a lot of damage right before the capture.

I'm not sure if it's even possible, but +2.

I'm pretty sure this how you get the objective capture assist when you are next to a decker when captures the objective.

I like this idea, i thought about it once. To take it a bit further i think that the closer to the assist area you are the more points you get, and then the points go down the further away you are from the "center" of the assist area.

The main problem is still there, though. Just because you are in that area doesn't mean you are helping the team. Just because you are killing doesn't mean you are defending an objective.

Wether you are helping or not doesn't depend that much on the position, but on what you do. Locations would be somewhat random, and if you stand right outside of it, but you kill 10 heavies while playing light, with only 1 hp left and only katana left, you get less points for the objective than the 10 minigun/ heavies with full armor, hp and ammo, who are afk inside the area?

I know that it already works like that right now, but this suggestion wouldn't change that, on contrary, people could stand all around the place and get lots of points, currently there is at least an incentive to get to the objective.
Lyta had a little Vorlon, her skin was pale as snow. And everywhere that Lyta went, the Vorlon was sure to go.

That it varies from map to map, but I don't think that you can deny that if a players of the attacking team puts themselves in a location that's anywhere which directly blocks the path from defender spawn to the capture point and the attacking team captures, then they pretty much deserve points for assisting with the capture.

If a player on the attacking team just recently enabled access to the capture point via decking (like in undermine or fortress) and then the capture is done, then they deserve points for assisting with the capture.
